Teamwork is involved in many aspects of the workplace. When applying for a new job, your interviewer might ask you:

What makes you a good team player?

It is important to make your response clear and concise. Be sure that you are giving relevant examples to show your willingness to be a great teammate. When it comes to hiring, almost every organization seeks “good team players.” Getting along with co-workers is one key quality for both the employee and the employer. A person who is a team player contributes more to the organization than the one who is not one.

Below are important aspects to be a good Team Player:

Trustworthy. A great team player

is constantly trustworthy day in and day out, not just some of the time. Being trustworthy reflects on you to be a reliable person. This is a simple task where you do not have to do something. Instead, you need to avoid doing a few things. First is making promises that you cannot keep. Also, if you are unable to do something, do not say you can or will do it. Tell the truth.

Communicate: A good team player is the one who communicates with each and every team member.

Your active and transparent communication with your team enhances your chances of good bonding with each team member and your rapport starts building.

Always Aim for Consensus: Having a different perspective on the same subject is a plus point.

So, why is it right to aim for consensus? Because doing so saves everybody’s time. The team gets significant productivity hours due to this. Also, coming to the same solution eradicates chances of conflicts.

Adapts Quickly and Responds: The team culture of each team varies.

As soon as you adopt the team culture and respond to team members on time, it increases the efficiency of the team. A good team player is one who participates more in team growth and plays a vital role in the success.

Collaboration and Compromise: While being a team leader is an admirable goal to work towards,

it is equally important to be able to work under the direction of someone else. This can involve collaborating with people who think differently than you. Speak about your ability to listen to others’ perspectives and apply them to the task at hand.

To be a great team player, you do not have to be an extrovert or indulge in self-promotion. In fact, great team players sport all kinds of personalities. You just need to be an active participant and do more than your job title states.
